Our Growing Story

Award-winning small batch living soil cannabis grown by people who give a f*ck.

At Flora and Flame, every plant is nurtured with care. We're a small team of craft cannabis cultivators based in Oakland, California. We grow flower the way it's supposed to be grown: in living soil, by hand, with no shortcuts and no synthetic inputs.

Every plant is nurtured from seed to harvest in our indoor no-till facility. Every bud is hand-trimmed and hand-packaged. We don't use machines because machines don't give a f*ck about trichomes.

We're not trying to be the biggest cannabis brand in California. We're trying to grow the best flower we can, batch after batch, and work with retail partners who understand the difference.

Living Soil, Not Just Organic

We're a no-till organic living soil facility. That's not marketing language - it's our entire cultivation philosophy.

Living soil is an ecosystem. Beneficial bacteria, mycorrhizal fungi, and microorganisms colonize the root zone and feed the plant while triggering its natural defense systems. When plants sense these microbes, they ramp up terpene production.

The result: richer flavor, fuller effects, and flower that tastes clean because nothing synthetic ever touched it.

The Science Part (If You Care)

Most cannabis is grown hydroponically - plants suspended in inert media, fed synthetic liquid nutrients. It's fast and it's scalable, but it's also one-dimensional.

Living soil works differently. The microbial ecosystem unlocks nutrients the plant can't access alone, provides metabolic fuel for high terpene synthesis, and triggers induced systemic resistance that leads to higher cannabinoid and flavonoid production.

Chemical fertilizers feed plants directly. Living soil feeds the microbes that feed your plants while activating the biological processes that create complex, diverse terpene profiles.

Translation: better flavor, better effects, flower that stays fresh longer.

Small Batch By Design

We grow small batches on purpose. Not because we can't scale, but because small batches let us:

• Maintain consistent quality across every harvest

• Hand-trim every bud with precision

• Catch issues before they become problems

• Give each plant the attention it deserves

• Keep our flower rotating fresh through retail

Find Flora & Flame in select dispensaries on your block. We're always looking for new retail partners and work closely with shops that understand craft cannabis.

Grown by Humans Who Give a F*ck

We're a small team. Everyone here can tell you about the plants, the strains, the soil, and why this method works. We're not corporate weed playing craft - we're actual craft growers who happen to run a tight operation.

Our head grower has been working with living soil for over half a decade. Our trimming team hand-processes every bud. Our packaging team seals every jar. There's no assembly line here - just people who care about the flower they're putting into the world.

Why Living Soil?

Living soil creates a thriving underground ecosystem that directly boosts your plants' terpene production and diversity.

The Soil Food Web at Work

Your soil microbiome (beneficial bacteria, fungi, and endophytes) feeds your plants while triggering their natural defense systems. When plants sense these beneficial microbes, they respond by ramping up terpene production.

Key Players

Beneficial bacteria like Bacillus and Pseudomonas unlock nutrients your plants can't access alone, providing the metabolic fuel needed for high terpene synthesis.

Mycorrhizal fungi extend root systems through vast underground networks, dramatically increasing nutrient absorption and supporting the energy demands of aromatic compound production.

Endophytic fungi like Trichoderma live inside plant tissues, releasing compounds that activate defense pathways and trigger higher terpene production.

Chemical Conversations Underground

Microbes emit volatile organic compounds that signal directly to your plants' genes, upregulating terpene synthase expression. Some beneficial microbes even supply precursors for terpene biosynthesis, providing ready-made building blocks.

Stress = Terpenes

Living soil helps plants handle environmental stress by triggering induced systemic resistance. This adaptive response consistently leads to higher terpene and flavonoid production.

The Bottom Line

Chemical fertilizers feed plants directly. Living soil feeds the microbes that feed your plants while triggering the biological processes that create complex, diverse terpene profiles. It's about activating your plants' full biochemical potential through symbiotic relationships.

Oakland Born & Grown

We're based in Oakland, California - a city with deep cannabis culture and a legacy of craft cultivation. We're proud to be part of that tradition.

Oakland isn't just where our facility is located. It's where our team lives, where our partners are, and where we're building something that matters to the community.

We're not a corporate brand that happened to land in Oakland. We're Oakland growers who are building a brand.
